Environmental Impact
Websites require significant amounts of energy both from the electricity needed to power servers and to cool the data centers where the servers are located. PilotQuiz primarily uses cloud-based virtual servers for handling web traffic and for data storage. Those virtual servers are powered through a combination of electricity sources, including wind and solar. Since wind and solar power are not consistently available, offsetting purchases of renewable energy are used to ensure that the servers have net zero emissions. You can learn more about these offsets here.
PilotQuiz also purchases carbon offsets to account for its estimated annual carbon footprint beyond that of the cloud-based virtual servers. That footprint is roughly estimated based on industry sources to be three metric tons of CO2 annually, and is not something that can be readily audited. The offsets themselves, however, are audited annually by an independent and accredited third party . You can learn more about those offsets here.
